Lacson: Health, Economy, Accountability to Top List of Priorities Under My Presidency

Lacson: Health, Economy, Accountability to Top List of Priorities Under My Presidency Health, economy, and accountability. These issues will top the list of priorities of Sen. Panfilo "Ping" M. Lacson should he be elected President in 2022. Lacson said that while ensuring the recovery of our health and economy from the pandemic is imperative, so is making sure that those who stole from public coffers are made to answer. "Magkasama - walang tradeoff between health and economy. Hindi mo ma-solve ang problem ng ekonomiya kung hindi mo tutugunan ang pandemya (There is no tradeoff between health and the economy. You cannot solve the problems affecting the economy if you do not address the health problems caused by the pandemic)," he said in an interview on TeleRadyo's "Ikaw ang On the Spot: The Presidential Candidate's Interview" on Wednesday. Lacson, who is running for President under Partido Reporma, earlier pointed out that the issues caused by the p

Lacson: BRAVE to erase begging, ‘utang na loob’ for LGUs

Lacson: BRAVE to erase begging, ‘utang na loob’ for LGUs Local government units don’t have to beg and feel “utang na loob” (debt of gratitude) toward politicians every time they ask for more funding for their projects once a proper bottom-up budgeting system is in place, Partido Reporma chairman and standard-bearer Panfilo “Ping” Lacson said. The Budget Reform Advocacy for Village Empowerment (BRAVE) program advocated by Lacson and running mate Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III is precisely what LGUs need to meet their local needs and priorities and not wait for “alms” from the national government, especially during the so-called budget season. The longtime public servants believe it is more effective for local officials to be part of the national budget-making process because they will also be the ones tasked to implement the programs tied to the funding – and would be accountable for the people’s money too under BRAVE. Lacson revealed this reality in all his “Online Kumusta

Not about personalities! Pacquiao aligns w/ Lacson call for issue-based campaign

Not about personalities! Pacquiao aligns w/ Lacson call for issue-based campaign Senator Manny Pacquiao said he agreed to Senator Ping Lacson’s call for all candidates to elevate the debates during the campaign according to issues instead of personalities. “Kaisa natin sa isipan si Senator Ping Lacson sa ganyang pananaw,” he said. “Since day one, our campaign has always been about issues and not personalities, about state policies, programs on how to uplift the lives of the poor and our visions for a better Philippines,” Pacquiao said when asked to react to Lacson’s call. “Kaya naman paulit-ulit nating ibinabahagi ang ating all-out war laban sa corruption, ang ating kagustuhan na ibaba ang ating mga buwis at mag focus sa ating non-tax revenue generation, ang ating zero-squatter campaign at ang pagkakaroon ng 50-year master plan sa ating mga infrastructure projects,” he added. “Inaasahan natin na ang ating mga mamamayan ay pipili ng kanilang susunod na lider batay sa mga bagay na naga

Sotto: MalacaƱang postpones signing of 2022 nat’l budget

Sotto: MalacaƱang postpones signing of 2022 nat’l budget MalacaƱang has postponed President Rodrigo Duterte’s ceremonial signing of the 2022 national budget originally scheduled on December 28, according to Senate President Tito Sotto. In a Viber thread, the Senate leader informed reporters that the signing ceremony was being rescheduled. No explanation was given for the postponement, according to Sotto. “Postpone daw ang signing. None. Will inform daw of new date,” he told reporters. “But I just received word now of the postponement. No reason given,” Sotto added. He said ceremonies for other bills for signing were also postponed.

Lacson: Next gov’t must close P84-billion UHC funding gap

Lacson: Next gov’t must close P84-billion UHC funding gap  The Universal Health Care Act is still underfunded by about P84 billion—a gap that must be addressed by the next administration to stop hospitals from leaving the state health insurance system for good and prevent the public from suffering even more amid the coronavirus pandemic, Partido Reporma chairman and standard-bearer Panfilo “Ping” Lacson said. Lacson raised this issue in a recent press conference in Lingayen, Pangasinan as he noted that more private hospitals were cutting ties with the Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) over unpaid hospitalization claims that reached about P20 billion as of November. The three-term senator said the full implementation of the UHC is crucial for the country to address the pandemic, which is a priority of the Partido Reporma presidential bet. “Our primary program, of course, is to address the pandemic. We have a Universal Health Care Act that was passed in 2018. Until now it

Sotto slams DOH decision to stop issuing daily COVID-19 bulletin in 2022

Sotto slams DOH decision to stop issuing daily COVID-19 bulletin in 2022 Senate President Vicente C. Sotto III thinks there is ‘’hidden agenda’’ behind the decision of the Department of Health to no longer issue daily COVID-19 bulletins. Sotto, a vice presidential aspirant, appeared perplexed by this DOH decision even as the country recorded its fourth Omicron case and daily recorded infections appear on the rise again though it is below the 500 cases daily rate. Told that the DOH would no longer give other details, explanations or context, Sotto said: ‘’May agenda nga (There is an agenda).’’ To senatorial aspirant and former senator Joseph Victor ‘’JV’’ Ejercito, the DOH announcement ‘’is wrong timing as the holidays caused the recent increases of COVID Cases, not to mention that a lot of countries are experiencing surges brought about by the Omicron variant.’’ ‘’All the more it is imperative that the number of cases and the situation should be closely monitored. Complacency will be

Pandemic recovery, anti-corruption efforts to remain top priorities for Lacson-Sotto

Pandemic recovery, anti-corruption efforts to remain top priorities for Lacson-Sotto Implementing his proposed future-proof strategic measures to lift the entire nation from the adverse effects of the COVID-19 pandemic remains a priority for Partido Reporma chairman and standard-bearer Panfilo “Ping” Lacson should he receive the executive mandate from the electorate. Included in this wide-ranging agenda is the creation of jobs to curb the unemployment rate, overhauling the budget system to cut national debt, providing funds for the universal healthcare coverage of Filipinos, and stamping out unbridled corruption in the bureaucracy, among others. Lacson also mentioned he and running mate Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III would like to get to the bottom of the rampant agricultural smuggling they recently uncovered as well the perennial diplomatic, trade and national security issues involving the West Philippine Sea. “Napakarami, dikit-dikit; minsan magkaka-connect pa, minsan nama

Lacson, Sotto tell Filipinos the best Christmas gift for their family is ‘a better future, government’

Lacson, Sotto tell Filipinos the best Christmas gift for their family is ‘a better future, government’ MANILA, Philippines — Presidential aspirant Senator Panfilo Lacson and his running mate Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III said that the best gift that Filipinos could give their families is a better future by voting for the right candidates in the 2022 polls. In a joint message on Christmas eve, Lacson and Sotto who are both running under the Partido Reporma said that the electorate must choose candidates who will serve them and will not rob the government coffers. “Sa Paskong ito, maari natin silang regaluhan ng magandang kinabukasan, ng isang pamahalaang una ang mamamayan. Alam ang gagawin. Hindi ka lolokohin. Hindi ka nanakawan.  Kayo’y pagsisilbihan. Aayusin ang gobyerno, aayusin ang buhay mo, ang buhay ng bawat Pilipino,” the tandem said. (This Christmas, we can provide our loved ones the gift of a bright future, of a government that would prioritize the people.  A govern

On The COA Report Flagging P1.44 Trillion In 'Idle' Projects

Image
On The COA Report Flagging P1.44 Trillion In 'Idle' Projects We owe it to the next generation of Filipinos to act now with strong political will in addressing corruption. It is high time for government prosecutors from the Ombudsman or Department of Justice (DOJ), as well as investigating agencies like the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and the Philippine National Police (PNP), to give utmost importance and attention to the regular and special Commission on Audit (COA) audit reports if we intend to be serious in stamping out corruption in the country. For one, the audit reports provide very good leads in identifying misuse and abuse of public funds and pursuing cases against erring public officials as well as their cohorts in the private sector - including contractors and suppliers. So much is lost to corruption, oftentimes committed with impunity by shenanigans who continue to laugh their way to the banks while we, the taxpaying public, are left with the proverbial e

How Lacson's Integrity, No-Nonsense Leadership Converted a 'Foe'

How Lacson's Integrity, No-Nonsense Leadership Converted a 'Foe' From a fierce foe to a staunch supporter. This was how former Interior Secretary Ronaldo "Ronnie" Puno described his reason for supporting - and managing - the presidential campaign of Sen. Panfilo "Ping" M. Lacson. "Si Ping Lacson, buong buhay ko sa gobyerno nang magkasama kami, magkaaway kami... Ang haba ng history namin, parang dalawang magkaklase sa isang eskwelahan na nag-a-aspire maging No. 1, di ba lagi silang magkaaway (When Ping Lacson and I served together in the government, we butted heads. We were like classmates vying for top honors. When that happens, wouldn't they clash)?" said Puno, who now manages Lacson's presidential campaign. During the Estrada administration, Lacson served as Philippine National Police chief, while Puno served as secretary of the Department of Interior and Local Government. The DILG supervises the PNP. He said one of the causes of th

On the President's Comment that Government Funds are Depleted

Image
On the President's Comment that Government Funds are Depleted I would suggest that the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) be convened immediately so the members of the Cabinet can mobilize the different agencies using their Quick Response Funds (QRF) and other relevant appropriations available under their disposal, among others. The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) should be required to submit an initial Post Disaster Needs Assessment (PDNA) in areas devastated by Odette. This will guide the President to prioritize aid and assistance based on the needs and extent of damage. For its part, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) should organize a meeting with the different ambassadors to appeal to the international community of nations for assistance just like what we did days after the onslaught of Typhoon Yolanda. Meanwhile, there is also a need to organize the mobilization of the country’s business and private sector to extend assistance in order to m

Why I choose Sen. Ping Lacson for President:

Image
Why I choose Sen. Ping Lacson for President: I have not seen any other presidential candidate whose heart and dedication to public service extends beyond regional borders and political colors than Sen. Ping Lacson.  He is not clannish, but independent-minded. He does not look into political affiliations or colors, but maintains that “what is right should be kept right and what is wrong must be made right”. Despite the possible backlash of the Anti-Terror Law to his political ambition, he bravely sponsored and defended it upon his belief that that law is needed to balance the anti-terrorism campaign of the government between the concerns of the terrorists, both local and foreign, and that of the law enforcers. He is honest and did not enrich himself with all the opportunities that he had. In fact, he did not get his “pork” while younger during all the twelve years that he was in the senate, therefore, he is not expected to enrich himself as president now that he is much older. He sc
